Chanukah on Jay
December 5, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This year’s Chanukah Celebration in the Capital Region just got larger and more fun. Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York (JFNENY), Capital Chabad Centers and scores of other local organizations will host a free community wide event “Chanukah on Jay” on Sunday, December 5, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Jay Street in Schenectady in front of City Hall.
At the event there will be live music and dancing, hot food, crafts and games, mater illusionist Ilan Smith, a grand menorah lighting and more. The Schenectady Fire Department will be bringing its hook and ladder truck and will be extending its ladder and showering the ground with chocolate gelt (coins) for all participants. Additionally, local children from Maimonides Hebrew Day School and Hebrew Academy are using art to express how they feel we can fight the darkness of antisemitism with light. Students are sketching their artistic interpretation which local artists will transfer to a large canvas. At “Chanukah on Jay” adults and children will make the mural come to life with color.
